J Lo won in the Favorite Latino Artist category, while crooner Bruno Mars bested the Biebs and Pitbull for the POP or ROCK MUSIC Favorite Male Artist award.
Bruno Mars won his first-ever American Music Award last night at the 39th American Music Awards in the Best Pop / Rock Male Artist category.
Once at the podium, Mars thanked his fans, his record label, his family and said he wanted to share the award with his “homie” nominees, since they’re all part of the same musical family and “we’re just doing music, we just want to do what we love.”
The other big Latino winner of the night was Jennifer López, who took over Enrique Iglesias’ five year reign as the best “Latin Artist of the Year” and stole the show with her ultra-spicy performances.
“I didn’t expect to win,” Lopez said, her voice breaking at the podium. “It’s been an amazing year…up and down and just exciting and overwhelming and so many things.”
Lopez then thanked her “family and babies” for inspiring her and making her “a better person.” She also thanked her creative partner Benny Medina, as well as producer RedOne.
“Mi gente Latina!” Lopez yelled at the end, raising her award “Por todo… I love you gracias.”
Check out the videos below for her spectacular performances, including an onstage replica of the FIAT commercial, as well as the much talked about controversial grinding moment with Pitbull, who later came back out to perform with Marc Anthony.
