Photo: J.R. Martinez Receives Season's First Perfect Score from the Judges on 'Dancing With the Stars'
The accolades for Army soldier turned actor (turned dancer), J.R. Martinez keep coming. On ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, Martinez and his partner, professional dancer Karina Smirnoff, danced their way to two perfect scores from the judges.
Monday night, Martinez and Smirnoff first ‘perfect 30’ dance was a waltz, which judge Bruno Toli said “was like a musical Valentine card. You danced with your heart on your sleeve.”
The second set of perfect scores came after a fast-paced Jive. However, as an added challenge, all dancers were given a dance, and had less than an hour to prepare before they were to take the stage.
Even with the challenge, Martinez and Smirnoff impressed both the audience and the judges.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told the pair, “You’re in a class all of your own. There’s nobody even coming close to you guys tonight.”
After the first week, the couple took the lead, and they haven’t looked back. Tuesday night is the DWTS elimination show, and though the couple received the season’s first pair of perfect scores from the judges, they technically still face elimination, as they await the audience votes.
However, many believe it’s television personality Nancy Grace who will be heading come. As Len Goodman put it to Grace, “Yours is the Cinderella story. You’ve come to the ball, and you’ve lasted eight weeks, however, for me, it’s midnight and it’s time to go home.”
