The repressive regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has just launched the country’s first Spanish language news channel with original programming, lifestyle news, talk shows and political rhetoric aimed at reaching audiences in Latin America.

HispanTV will cover news in Iran though news dissemination is limited to most Iranians and it is government controlled.  The news channel will offer talk shows, movie reviews and cultural insight into Iran.  The main TV station will be in Iran with satellite offices in Spain and throughout Latin America.  The signal will be strong enough to reach most of Latin America and Brazil.

Iran enjoys close relations with the governments of Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia and considered President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela one of his closest allies.

HispanTV aims to be a 24/7 news provider by 2012 much like Al Jazeera is.  It hopes also to be able to produce movies and documentaries with the Iranian point of view.
