Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas will miss between six and eight weeks due to a hand injury, sources close to the Spanish international told Efe Thursday.
The keeper had to leave Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal with Valencia after teammate Alvaro Arbeloa accidentally struck him in the 17th minute.
While Casillas initially thought he had suffered only a bad bruise, subsequent examinations detected a fracture in his left hand.
The club declined to say how long the keeper would be sidelined, but sources close to Casillas said he expects to return sometime in March, though specialists consulted by Efe said the player could be ready for action again in four weeks.
Real Madrid played to a 1-1 tie with Valencia in the second leg of their quarterfinal and advanced to the Copa del Rey semis by 3-1 on aggregate.
