While all of Congress and the nation remains focused on the contentious debt ceiling talks the President took time to reaffirm his commitment to making the DREAM Act a reality.

This weekend the President spoke on Univision Radio on the Doctora Isabel show saying that he remains committed to seeing undocumented immigrant students who attend college or serve in the military have a path to citizenship.

“Well, keep in mind we are pursuing it right now. We were pursuing it last year,” he told Isabel. “We should be welcoming (the undocumented students) and so I’ve consistently said that I am a strong supporter of the DREAM Act.”

The President was very honest with Isabel on the challenges facing the passage of the DREAM Act noting that several Republicans who had supported it in the past no longer do.  He remains committed to rebuilding the support the DREAM Act once had and recruiting new supporters.

Obama sees party line politics as the greatest obstacle to passage and anything else that tries to get done in Washington these days.
