Photo: Hugo Chavez Will Not Address UN General Assembly
The last minute notification by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez that he will not be addressing the UN General Assembly is adding speculation about the state of his health.
Chavez admitted to having tumors removed in Cuba over the summer and has undergone various rounds of chemotherapy. The most recent chemotherapy treatment, his fourth, just occurred four days ago in Cuba.
The left-leaning leader has never disclosed the type of cancer he has but has vowed to remind in power for decades more. When Chavez concluded his third round of treatment he had assured the country he was done with treatments.
Venezuelans officials continue to state he is well and on the road to a full recovery. He addressed the nation yesterday via a audio recording only admitting to not having his same physical strength.
The country’s foreign minister, Micolas Maduro Moros will take his place at the General Assembly meeting this week.
