The Central American country of Honduras has signed a free trade agreement with Canada this Friday. The trade agreement aims to open up both countries exports and boost investment.
Canadians will still enjoy some trade protection like import quotas on pork and beef products. The agreement was signed as Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper concluded his Latin American tour.
The trade agreement had been in the works for 10 years and stalled along the way with concerns about Honduras’ human right issues and crime rates; Canada will contribute over $9 million toward security plans for Honduras.
