When a woman and her husband saw an drunk woman passed out on an Albuquerque, New Mexico street over the weekend they may have saved the lives of the woman’s children.
Sunday night, Felicia Santillanes and her husband found Jennifer Jones unconscious behind her car, reeking of alcohol. Inside the vehicle were five children, one of them a baby.
Santillanes told local ABC affiliate KOAT news, “It was craz. We ended up doing CPR on her. We did it three times, that’s when she ended up waking up.”
To keep her from attempting to drive her and her children home while clearly too drunk, Santillanes said her husband took Jones’ car keys, saying, “You’re not taking off with these kids.”
Santillanes said the children in the car did not have car seats and the baby’s diaper hadn’t been changed in so long it was completely full. She and her husband called police and waited with the very hungry children until officers arrived.
The police called the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department before arresting Jones, who was described as being drunk and incoherent.
The drunken mother has been charged with child abuse, and Santillanes said she is happy to know the children are in a good place.
