Five people died and 13 more were injured when a bus full of passengers ran head-on into a truck in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz, emergency management services said.

The report noted that a bus of the Autobuses Unidos company on its way from Cordoba to the Port of Veracruz collided with a semi-trailer truck at 6:58 a.m. (1158 GMT) on the Cordoba-Veracruz federal highway in an area known as El Resplandor.

As a result of the crash, the vehicles burst into flames, burning to death the two drivers and three of the passengers.

Thirteen passengers were injured, seven of whom had to be admitted to Covadonga Hospital in the city of Cordoba, while the others were released with only slight injuries.

Federal and state security agents as well as firefighters rushed to the scene of the wreck.
