Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has announced that they are creating Fox Hispanic Media (FHM) to expand its presence in Hispanic TV aimed at Spanish-speaking consumers.
As the census data shows Hispanic’s being the fastest growing demographic and the largest minority in the country, Fox is taking heed. Two of the company’s divisions, Fox International Channels and Fox Global Networks will spearhead the creation.
Fox News, viewed by many as anti-Hispanic and virulently anti-immigrant, is quietly keeping out of this venture. The overriding goal of FHM is to help advertisers reach the Hispanic market more effectively.
The new venture will be made up of two existing cable channels, Fox Deportes and Utilísima and a new offering Nat Geo Mundo (a Spanish-language version to the National Geographic channel).
FHM will compete with Spanish-language TV giants Univision and NBC’s Telemundo.
