No Longer Facing Deportation, Harvard Student To Stay in U.S.

Eric Balderas, the 19-year old Harvard sophomore learned this weekend that U.S. immigration officials will not pursue deportation as was expected at his upcoming July immigration hearing.  Balderas came to the national spotlight after a student immigrant social media campaign highlighted the injustice of this case and used it to advance the DREAM act that if enacted would allow undocumented immigrant student and military personnel to become U.S. citizens.

Balderas, who came from to Mexico at the age of 4, was detained in Texas several weeks ago when he attempted to board a flight to Boston with a student ID.  Balderas will now continue his molecular science studies and seek permanent residence in the country.
