Four men were shot to death and another was wounded in an attack by a gunman in western Honduras, the police spokesman in the northern city of San Pedro Sula, Cesar Johson, announced Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in the town of La Encarnacion, in the western province of Ocotepeque, as the men were playing pool in a billiard parlor, according to the police report.
The victims were immersed in their game when a man armed with a pistol showed up and, without saying anything, opened fire on the group and then fled, the spokesman said, citing eyewitnesses.
The dead were identified as Heber Mata, Francisco Maldonado, Jacinto Mata and Santos Vasquez.
Wounded in the attack was Jose Elias Rojas, who was taken to a local clinic, where he is receiving medical attention, Johson said, although he did not discuss the severity of his injuries.
So far, police have no clues regarding where the gunman fled or what the motives for the crime were.
Honduras has one of the highest murder rates in the world with an average of 14 homicides per day so far this year, according to local authorities.
