The Latino-themed movie by writer-director, Rashaad Ernesto Green, “Gun Hill Road” starring Esai Morales and Judy Reyes has acquired a worldwide distributor and was well received at the Sundance Film Festival.
The movie tells the struggles of a Latino family, living in the Bronx, with a hard-knocked father (Esai Morales) returning once again from prison to his struggling wife (Judy Reyes) and a teen age son (Harmony Santana) who is trying to figure out his sexual identity. Incredibly this complex movie was filmed on a tight budget and in 22 days.
The movie premiered this week at Sundance to a sold-out audience and a standing ovation. More importantly the independent film was able to obtain a distributor, the Motion Film Group, so that the film can be seen at a theater near you soon.
The current plan is to release the film early this summer in cities with large Hispanic populations like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago and then roll out to other markets. Video release is planned for the fall. With this warm reception the movie will also go to the Cannes Film Festival in May.
