Guatemalan Family Murdered in Southern Mexico

A Guatemalan couple and their two children were found fatally shot in a rural area of the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, relatives said.

Neighbors spotted the bodies early Wednesday in the brush near the La Esmeralda ranch in the municipality of La Trinitaria, where the father was employed as caretaker.

The neighbors then notified members of the victims’ extended family who live in the area.

Relatives identified the victims as Misael Ordoñez Perez, 38; Rovela Gomez Lopez, 35; Yordani Domingo Gomez, 11; and Rovely Ordoñez Gomez, 2.

The family emigrated to Mexico three years ago from Guatemala’s Huehuetenango province.

Ordoñez Perez’s Toyota pickup truck was found abandoned not far from the bodies.

Police and soldiers arrived later to begin the investigation and transport the dead to the medical examiner’s office in Comitan, Chiapas.
