Guatemala Soccer Team Facing Death Threats for Poor Performance, Manager Murdered 2 Days Ago

The Guatemala soccer league is calling on the government to provide extra security and vigilance after the killing of a team’s vice president/manager Noe Gomez.

Noe Gomez worked for the Xinabajul team club located in the northern part of the country.  The team is having a bad season and currently is at the bottom of the Guatemala soccer league rankings.  Two days ago Gomez was shot to death after leaving a team meeting.

Now the club’s president Mauro Rodriguez is receiving death threats and is under police protection – he is not attending any club games or meetings.

Last November a soccer league player, Carlos Vasquez, was threatened and then killed with his body found chopped into pieces that were left in 5 garbage bags.
