Six people were killed and 22 others hurt early Thursday when a bus collided with a truck in the western state of Durango, Mexican authorities said.
The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the Fresnillo-Cuencame highway, the Durango state Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.
The bus was en route from the western metropolis of Guadalajara to Ciudad Juarez, just across the border from El Paso, Texas.
While the bus driver was among the injured, the man driving the truck fled the scene.
Authorities removed the bodies of the dead to the medical examiner’s office and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, the Durango AG’s office said.
Thursday’s crash came a month after a fiery bus-truck collision in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz left 36 people dead.
