A 23-year-old woman was killed and 40 other people were wounded when a man pulled out a hand grenade during a fight in a neighborhood in Medellin, a city in northwestern Colombia, police said Sunday.
The victim, identified as Rocio del Carmen Arrieta Arenas, was killed by the blast, police said.
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, Aburra Valley Metropolitan Police chief Gen. Jose Angel Mendoza said.
The explosion occurred on Saturday night when a man handled the grenade during a fight, the police chief said.
One of the individuals “took out a grenade, another one made it drop (on the ground) and the explosion happened,” wounding people who were nearby, Mendoza said.
The people wounded by shrapnel were taken to clinics and hospitals for treatment.
The suspect is under guard at a hospital, Mendoza said.
