Government Sponsors Mass Wedding with 2,500 Couples in Mexico’s Most Violent City

Ciudad Juarez in the state of Chihuahua wanted to celebrate Valentine Day’s in a special way but more importantly it wanted to promote love instead of bloodshed.

As the most violent city in Mexico, with 3000 of its citizens killed last year, most people only read about the criminal element and not the countless citizens that try to lead an ordinary life under extraordinary circumstances.

So yesterday, Governor Cesar Duarte conducted a mass wedding where 2,500 couples were married, entertained by mariachi and stage performances.  Some lucky couples also received raffle prizes and two very lucky couples won a home.

There were underage couples to senior citizens who decided to take their vows and forgot for one day the blood shed in the city.
