Thanks to a group of generous donors 15-year-old Frida Lagunas’ quineañera dreams have come true, this past Saturday.
Lagunas, from Santa Barbara, has been battling brain cancer since she was 12-years-old and never thought she would see this day. The staff at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, knew this right of passage for Latina girls was very important to Lagunas and her family.
The staff created a Hollywood themed quinceañera for Lagunas, complete with a dress, tuxedos for her dad and brother, limo, food and mariachi music. The quinceañera was hosted at the hospital with most items donated by donors organized through the hospital.
The big surprise for Lagunas came when singer Leonardo Aguilar, son of singing icon Pep Aguilar, serenaded the teen.
Make-A-Wish was also instrumental in getting Lagunas ready for her big day. They helped provide a red carpet entrance to the local Thousand Oaks mall back in August, as well as a personal stylist to help her pick out her dress and shoes. Her special dress was designed by Adan Terriquez.
Lagunas said, “For me, it’s something that’s very, very special because this place, it’s like a home to me, because ever since I was diagnosed, they made me feel like I had something to fight for. They were like family for me, so I really really appreciate them for everything they’ve done, and they helped me, they saved my life.”
