Gay Marriage Must Be Recognized in All of Mexico Says Supreme Court

Mexico’s Supreme Court in a 9-2 decision has stated that Mexico City’s same sex marriage law must be recognized by all the country’s 31 states.  Mexico City allowed gay marriage as of March 4th making this the first gay marriage law in Latin America, now Argentina allows gay marriage throughout its country.  Thus far there have been 320 Mexican gay couples married.

The ruling does not dictate how each state must recognize a Mexico City gay marriage.  The Mexico City allows gay married couples to adopt children, be covered by each others health insurance and inherit assets upon death.
