Guatemalan twins Josie and Teresita Cajas who were born conjoined celebrated their 10th birthday with a Hawaiian-themed birthday party and all the people who made everything possible for them.

The twins who were conjoined at the head were separated 9 years ago after going a rigorous and dangerous operation at UCLA Medical Center.  So it made sense to celebrate their 10th year of life with the 50-person surgical team and patrons that made it all possible including movie star Mel Gibson.

The twins were separated after a 23-hour operation that cost $1.5 million and was coordinated by Mending Kids International, Gibson has been affiliated with Mending Kids for years.

Teresita who contracted meningitis after the surgical separation, cannot speak and Josie has trouble with motor skills but continues to improve.  The girls live with host families in Los Angeles to be close to good medical care while their parents remain in their rural village in Guatemala.
