An armed commando carried out a lethal attack on Jesus Silverio Cavazos Ceballos, a former governor of Colima when armed men sprayed Cavazos (along with Rafael Gutierrez Villalobos, Economic Development Officer of the Government of Colima) with automatic weapon fire, outside his house.
Seriously injured, both men were taken to a local medical center, the clinic of Saint Francis. Shortly after being admitted, the former governor succumbed due to the amount of wounds all over his body.
In November of last year, Silverio Cavazos had left the governorship of Colima; sources indicated that the politician had received several threats, and he kept a security detail to protect him until the last minute of his life.
Authorities have since engaged emergency operations throughout the state of Colima, in hopes of finding those responsible for the fatal attack.

JesúsSilverio Cavazos Ceballos was born in Tecoman, Colima, October 15 1968. Developed his political career in the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) party, which led him to the governorship of his state in 2005 – 2009 term. Cavazos graduated in Law from the University of Colima.
