Retired Mexican boxer Isidro “Sid” Perez, a former flyweight champion who went missing in September, has been found dead, the World Boxing Council said.

Perez, 48, was identified by his sister Reyna Perez at the Mexico City medical examiner’s office, added the WBC, although it did not mention the cause of his death.

In 1990, Perez won the World Boxing Organization’s flyweight championship by defeating Puerto Rico’s Angel Rosario.

His career as a professional boxer spanned the period from 1979 to 1992. In 1997, however, he returned to the ring for two fights.

In all, he fought 69 times, winning 57, losing 9 and tying 3.

Authorities will turn over Perez’s remains to his family on Thursday along with an autopsy report, the WBC told Efe.
