Almost 5,000 people around the world dressed in blue to beat the world record of more people dressed as Smurfs in a 24hr period.
The former record of 2,510 people was smashed last Saturday, when 4,891 people around the world went blue in the face for the Global Smurf Day.
Fans in Brussels, Athens, La Hague, Dublin, Panamá Warsaw, Moscow, Johannesburg, New York, London, Copenhagen, Brazil and México City, dressed as smurfs to celebrate creator Peyo’s birthday, and celebrate in a massive Pitufiesta.
In México, some 300 fans sung “Las Mañanitas,” before cutting a cake adorned with hundreds of small blue sugar pitufitos.
In Spain, Sony Entertainment painted blue every single house and building of the Málaga town of Júzcar; the local bar and hostel, the church, the plaza, even the cemetery were painted blue to celebrate the smurfs. Only one person in the whole town reportedly opposed the idea.
“There’s always a Gargamel everywhere” the town folk said.
