Florida Teacher ‘Disciplines’ Autistic Students with Hot Sauce

Lillian Gomez, a Kissimmee, Florida, special education teacher, was recently removed from her classroom and suspended after putting hot sauce on her student’s crayons.  According to Gomez, the hot sauce was meant to keep her autistic students from putting the crayons in their mouths.

This action has caused an outrage among parents and school officials.  Many parents are concerned about their children; as many are non verbal and do not fully understand what happened.  One parent expressed concern that her child was frightened of crayons after the incident.

Lillian Gomez will face a hearing later this month regarding her probable termination from Sunrise Elementary School.
