Coach Claudio Borghi removed 5 players from the national team after they returned to the team’s hotel drunk and 45 minutes past their curfew.

West Brom defender Gonzalo Jara, Birmingham winger Jean Beausejour, Atalanta defender Carlos Carmona, Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and Palmeiras’ Jorge Valdivia have been taken off the Chilean National Soccer Team by coach Claudio Borghi.

The five players arrived visibly drunk and forty five minutes past their curfew, after having spent the evening at a party for Valdivia’s daughter’s baptism.

Borghi dismissed the players, and they won’t play at the World Cup qualifiers away against Uruguay on Friday and at home against Paraguay on Tuesday.

The five players apologized to team mates and fans for being late but challenged the coach’s version. They say that although they don’t deny having had drinks, they were not drunk.

Any further punishment will be decided by the Chile football federation.  One of the players is on his way back to Europe, while the other four remain in Chile, waiting for developments.
