Former Venezuelan President Carlos Andrés Pérez will be buried in Venezuela after 8 months of intense quarreling between his mistress in Miami and his wife in Venezuela.
Pérez died of a heart attack last Christmas; his body remained in a cool room for the better part of this year, until a Florida judge ordered it to be put in a temporaty crypt, until a decision could be reached on the ultimate burial site.
The president’s first wife, Blanca Rodríguez and her family won the court room drama, and the body of the late president will be repatriated to Venezuela.
The president’s mistress and former secretary Cecilia Matos had refused to let the body be transported to Venezuela, as in his last days Pérez had vehemently expressed his decision to not go back to Venezuela while dictator Hugo Chávez was in power. He had lived in Miami in exile for the last 30 years with his secretary-mistress where he had two daughters with her and while his wife and family lived in Venezuela.
