The Mexican Actress Fernanda Romero has said she will plead guilty to charges that she lied to immigration who say she was in a sham marriage. Last April Fernanda Romero and Kent Stuart Ross were charged last April with lying on immigration forms and in September the case made it to trial. A mistrial was declared however when jurors reported that deliberations had become too hostile. The retrial was scheduled for February.
Although Prosecutors are not seeking jail time for the couple, they do face the possibility of five years each in federal prison should the judge decide.
Romero’s plea agreement required that she acknowledge that she lied in a sworn statement about her relationship with Ross. Prosecutors claim that the pair married so Romero could obtain permanent residency, although they were living in separate homes and were dating other people.
