A Texas father was charged with child abandonment after his car was towed away with his children inside.
According to police, Victor Ruiz had parked his car in a no-parking zone outside his Houston apartment on Thursday while he unloaded his groceries.
Noticing Ruiz’s illegally parked vehicle, a passing tow truck driver began to hook up the car and tow it away. What the tow truck driver failed to noticed, however, was that Ruiz’s two daughters were still in the back seat.
Neighbors who saw the car being towed, tried to get the tow truck driver’s attention as well as Ruiz’s, but one witness said the vehicle was hooked up and taken away so quickly that the driver did not hear them.
The tow truck driver, whose name was not released, reportedly stopped about two miles away after realizing their girls in the vehicle.
Ruiz was arrested on two counts of child abandonment for leaving his children in the car, but some of his neighbors believe the charges are unfair, because the children were not completely alone.
Sade Jones told KTRH, ‘How did he abandon a child if a whole bunch of people (were) around watching his car?’
As of Saturday, Ruiz remained in jail, with his bond set at $4,000.
