At least two criminals and a passenger were killed Tuesday during an attempted robbery on a bus in central El Salvador, police said.
The shootout occurred when several armed passengers clashed with the assailants who were stealing money and belongings from the people aboard the bus, members of the PNC police told reporters at the scene.
They added that the fatalities had not been identified and that at least one passenger and an assailant had been wounded and are now in hospital.
The bus was headed from the city of San Vicente toward San Salvador when near the municipality of Tecoluca between eight and ten thieves, their faces covered with ski masks, boarded the bus to commit the robbery, authorities said.
