Photo: Woman Tries to Smuggle 1-Pound Package of Meth in Vagina
An woman was taken into custody while attempting to cross into the U.S. from Mexico after it was suspected she was smuggling drugs.
Identified as 31-year-old Claudia Ibarra, the woman was allegedly attempting to smuggle about one pound of methamphetamine from Mexico to Arizona.
A U.S. citizen residing in Yuma, AZ, Ibarra was taken into custody at the port of San Luis after border authorities noticed she seemed very nervous.
According to officials, during a pat down, an officer noticed Ibarra had “something down there,” and could see a piece of what appeared to be plastic sticking out. Ibarra then admitted to having the drugs in her vagina and she was transported to a nearby medical facility after it was revealed she could not be easily removed.
Once there, a one-pound package of methamphetamine was found and recovered from Ibarra’s vagina. The inserted package had been wrapped in black tape and put inside a condom. Doctors said, had it opened, it could have easily killed Ibarra.
Ibarra was then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She now faces two federal drug charges.
