Gang Enforcement Officers working in Chicago arrested two offenders for marijuana offenses last night. Further investigation by the officers led to the discovery and subsequent seizure of over $1 million in cash.
When officers arrested two subjects for cannabis possession, the investigation ultimately led to the seizure of $1,048,000 in U.S. currency.
The money is believed to be related to narcotics trafficking. A Chicago Police canine positively “hit” on the funds – which means the canine detected the presence of narcotics on the money. Also telling was the manner in which the bills were packaged and stored when discovered by officers.
Cuauthemoc Beltran, 38, and Juan Carlos Tafolla, 27, both of Chicago were arrested and charged with misdemeanors and are scheduled to appear in court in early February.
