Chicago Police have announced the arrest of two Chicago-area men that were found in possession of nearly 1,000 pounds of pot valued at nearly $7 million along with a firearm and cash.
Police were executing a search warrant early Monday morning on the home of Manuel Mata, 37, at the 4400 N. Melvina block when they encountered Mata and found 950 pounds of pot and a .22 caliber gun. The home had been under surveillance before the search warrant was executed. The gun was not registered and Mata did not have a valid owner’s ID card for the gun.
Through their investigation police identified another possible location where marijuana was being stored. They searched the home of Joaquin Muneton, 39, on the 3500 block of N. Kilpatrick where another 10 pound of pot was found and $36,000 in bundled cash.
Both men are expected in bond court Tuesday.
