U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Otay Mesa cargo facility last Friday morning discovered 384 pounds of marijuana hidden inside of concrete barriers.

On February 10, at about 10:45 a.m., a 59-year-old male Mexican citizen drove a 1988 Kenworth tractor and trailer to the cargo port with a shipment manifested as cement articles. The CBP officer referred the shipment to the dock for a more intensive examination.

CBP officers utilized a detector dog to screen the tractor and trailer; the canine alerted to the shipment. Officers then drilled a hole in one of the concrete barriers and extracted a green leaf substance that field tested positive for marijuana.

CBP officers removed 77 wrapped packages of marijuana concealed inside of the concrete barriers, with a street value of more than $230,000.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Metropolitan Correctional Center. CBP seized both the marijuana and the tractor and trailer.
