Peruvian soccer fans at a Universitario match on Friday reportedly set off an explosion that killed a police horse and the injured the officer riding it.

During a celebration at the Universitario stadium, an officer spotted 21-year-old Renzo Javier Llerena Champén outside the stadium with 180 small packages of cocaine. Just as the officer, identified as Daniel Villareal, approached Champén, another fan nearby threw an explosive device.

The explosion severely injured the officer’s horse, Lenca Star, and injured Officer Villareal. Sadly, hours later, the horse died.

Following the explosion, police arrested the man believed to have thrown the explosive device as well as 10 soccer hooligans who blocked roadways and vandalized nearby homes.

The criminal activity happened during what was supposed to be a celebration during the presentation of the 2013 Universitario soccer team.
