The attack was described as “unexpected” and “surreal”-  even for the contentious environment of family court – left soon to be divorced Catherine Ann Scott-Gonzalez in the hospital with facial fractures and multiple bruises.

She and her ex-Marine husband Paul Henry Gonzalez, of Fort Lauderdale, where in court to finalize their divorce.  Gonzalez who appeared without an attorney lost it when he found out he had to pay child support and couldn’t see his 1 and 3-year old children when he pleased.  He left Judge Ronald Rothschild’s Broward County Court room quietly and then suddenly reappeared.

He lunged at his wife and hit her repeatedly with closed fists, the first blow came with such force she was knocked unconscious.  Her attorney attempted to subdue him until police arrived and who were forced to taser him twice since he refused to calm down.  Judge Rothschild who was not hurt pressed a panic button to summon security.  He noted he would of had security if he had any indication Gonzalez was dangerous.

Gonzalez, 28 years-old is now in jail with bond set at $1 million dollars.
