Eva Longoria is becoming the go-to-Latina to get the Latino vote out. She was on the political campaign trail today for Newark, New Jersey Mayor and senatorial hopeful Cory Booker.
Longoria had a prominent role in President Obama’s two presidential campaigns. The 38-year-old ‘Desperate Housewife’ served as Obama’s inauguration co-chair person and spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Longoria, who is Mexican-American, campaigned aggressively to get Latinos to register to vote and a record number did in 2012. It is believed Longoria met Booker during Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.
Booker is running in the U.S. Senate Special Election that will be held on Tuesday. There are four Democratic hopefuls competing, Booker is considered the front-runner. Who ever wins will face the Republican candidate who will also be selected on Tuesday. The New Jersey senate seat became available when Democratic senator Frank Lautenberg died.
Longoria claimed Booker “as a Latino” and praised him as a good friend, great leader and compassionate human being. Longoria accompanied Booker in Plainfield and Newark, NJ campaign stops.
It is certain that Booker will call on pal Longoria if he is victorious Tuesday, for the state-wide Senatorial campaign. Hopefully she will not be too busy executive producing her most recent project ‘Devious Maids’ that was just picked up for another season.
