With a 15 percent increase in ESPN’s Hispanic audience over the past five years, the network has added a Spanish-language television advertisement for its show “SportsCenter” to its broadcasts.
ESPN, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company, will now be running an ad for it’s 17-year-old show, which has the tag line “This is SportsCenter,” with the Spanish-language saying “Esto es SportsCenter.”
The ad has Dominican second baseman Robinson Cano, of the New York Yankees, giving high-fives and handshakes to staff member at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, unknowingly spreading a cold.
The ad will reportedly be running of ESPN Deportes, the network’s Spanish-language sports channel created in 2004, as well as on the English-language channel ESPN2.
The ad marks the first time the network will air a Spanish-language ad on both an Spanish- and English-language channel.
