For the fourth consecutive year the Cervantes Institute is celebrating “El Dia E” (The Day of Spanish), an event that marks the global consolidation and expansion of Spanish language and culture, with more than 50 cities joining in.

On Saturday the central office of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid will celebrate El Dia E with a special program in which children will take the leading role, with storytelling sessions, workshops and a performance by musician Nacho Mastretta.

A day of open doors at the photography exhibition “Tropical Schizophrenia” and guided tours of the Box of Letters, the antique vault where great figures of Spanish culture leave their legacies in safety deposit boxes to be opened on the date they decide, complete the activities at the institute’s Madrid headquarters.

The 77 centers of the Cervantes Institute around the world will host concerts, film shows and conferences on the Spanish language. A meeting with Peruvian writer Fernando Iwasaki in Athens and a Flamenco show featuring Manuel Reina and Pico de Triana in Istanbul are just two of the events honoring the Spanish language and culture worldwide on June 23.
