The Honduran government is responding to the increase in illegal border crossers at the Texas-Mexico border and is now opening up a diplomatic post in McAllen, Texas to service those immigrants.
The Honduras diplomatic outpost will be located on Broadway Street on the same avenue the Mexican and Guatemala consulates are located. Officials are describing the office as an “auxiliary” office and not a full-service consulate.
The Honduras government under the Presidency of Porfirio Lobo Sosa is reacting to the nearly 20,000 undocumented Hondurans that entered the U.S. illegally in the last 9 months alone. This McAllen diplomatic outpost will mainly process deported Hondurans and make arrangements for the bodies of those that died attempting the dangerous border crossing.
Honduras has 11 diplomatic embassies in the United States including one in Houston, Texas – the most in any one country.
