A man suspected of belonging to a drug gang that operates in Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Argentina was arrested in southwestern Colombia, the National Police said.
The unidentified suspect was captured in a neighborhood in Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca province.
The man is the subject of an extradition request filed by Peru, the National Police said in a statement.
The suspect belonged from 2010 to 2012 to a gang that smuggled cocaine from Colombia into Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina and then into Europe, the National Police said.
The suspected drug trafficker “was in charge of managing the contacts for the production and sale” of cocaine, and he also coordinated the flow of money into Colombia from the gang’s illegal activities, the National Police said.
