“Yes, it does exist!” The Simpsons’ favorite adult beverage, Duff beer, is now available in México, Argentina, Colombia and Chile!
“Duff is a Premium beer, characterized for being 100% malt, as well as for its blonde color, 4,6 degrees of alcohol and its golden ale light body,” describes the Colombian Duff website.
The Pilsner shares a logo with the brew that Homer Simpson and his cronies drink at Moe’s bar; it’s motto “Yes, it does exist!” attracts buyers, who can’t resist to buy one when they see it in stores.
“I’m not going to tell you that this is the best beer in the world, but it sells very well,” said Reynaldo Román, general manager of the Rock Garden bar in Bogotá, Colombia. “When people see it they have to buy it. The marketing has already been done for it, there are a lot of Simpsons fans in Colombia.”
In Chile, Enrique Robles, who owns the local franchise is expecting to sell $750,000 worth of beer in 2011.
“Two generations of young people have been raised on the Simpsons,” he told El Mercurio newspaper. “What we have is an unsatisfied fantasy.”
A fantasy which is still far in the horizon of American Simpsons fans, as Fox refuses to license the brew in the U.S.
Reports indicate that Matt Groening, creator of the most famous yellow cartoons, is afraid that the leap of the beverage from the cartoon world into real life, would encourage underage drinking. Fans however, will look for it even if it means taking a trip south of the border; On eBay, an empty bottle of Duff beer from Argentina sells for $14.99 and the bottle tag from the Colombian brewers is being auctioned starting at $8.99.
