Peruvian Deysi Cori Wins World Chess Youth Tournament

Deysi shone in the chess tournament held in Chennai, India, winning 13 matches, tying 4, and finishing undefeated!  Deysi defeated Georgian Keti Tsatsalashvili to become the undefeated champion of the under-20 tournament.

With a total of 11 points, she was followed by Russian Olga Girya with 10.5 points and Georgia’s Nazi Paikidze with 9.5 points.

Cari, who is 17 years old, holds the title of “Woman Grandmaster,” and added this title to a long list of awards, including the under-16 world chess title, which she won in Turkey.

Cori and her little brother, Jorge, have both been awarded several chess titles, including the gold medal in the 2009 Pan-American Games.  Cori is also considered the top-rated chess player in Peru, more impressively she is the only girls Chess Top 20 who resides in the Western Hemisphere.
