“Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry’s new hour-long soap on ABC will be called “Devious Maids,” and is loosely based on Mexican Novela “The Disorderly Maids”

In the Mexican tele-nolvela the four maids, Silvia, Maribel, Adela, Guillermina and Carmela, work in a quiet Beverly Hills residential condominium where nothing ever happens until the residents became divided over a decision to build a swimming pool despite there being a severe water shortage in the area. One of tenants goes AWOL, a suitcase full of money surfaces and a dead body appears at the bottom of the half-finished pool. The gals, of course find themselves in the middle of it all.

Cherry will write the script and executive produce, while ABC Studios is producing.
