Famed director Robert Rodriguez looks to be getting ready to shoot the sequel to 2009’s Machete, which featured David Trejo in the title role.

The film is called Machete Kills and Deadline New York is reporting that it will be the second in what is planned to be a trilogy about the brutal and less-than-conventional hero.

It’s also said that Rodriguez will be financed and produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of AR Films US. Filming is expecting to begin in April, with Rodriguez saying he hopes to bring back actors from the first film, at least, those who didn’t get pumped full of bullets or hacked to bits by Machete.

Deadline:

The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.

The first film marked the first time Trejo, who has been in dozens of movies, was actually playing the main character.
