While one cruise ship defends itself for not helping stranded boaters, some of who died, another is being called heroic.
Over the weekend, cruise ship Disney Fantasy embarked from Port Canaveral, on its way to Grand Cayman. Near Key West, four Cuban men were spotted floating on a small raft signaling for help.
“The men were brought aboard the ship and provided with medical attention along with food and water. We are proud of our Disney Fantasy crew members, who skillfully demonstrated their training and commitment to maritime protocols around saving lives at sea,” Disney Cruise Line said in a statement.
The U.S. Coast Guard was in contact with the cruise ship to schedule the disembarkation of the men and as of Tuesday, the men were still aboard the ship for its stop in Mexico.
The Disney Fantasy is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on Saturday.
There was no word on whether the men were attempting to reach U.S. shores or if something else had set them adrift in open waters.
