47 year-old Judge Patricia Acioli was shot 21 times outside of her home in a municipality of Rio de Janiero.  The crime fighting judge and mother of three was known for her tough stance on corruption in the Brazilian police force.

Acioli was ambushed outside of her home by men riding in several cars and motorbikes dressed as Ninja’s.  Her court superiors noted that she had recently received several death threats.  It is believed Acioli was killed by some militia group operating in Rio.

Militia groups in Rio de Janeiro are thought to be responsible for over 45% of all murders in the city.  Militia groups are typically made up of rogue police officers, firemen prison guards and/or military police.
