Mexican authorities in the state of Chihuahua were investigating the kidnapping of 50-year old business man when they came upon a creepy and gruesome find – a Santa Muerte altar with a skeleton bride holding court.
The police were led to the Joaquin Castellanos street in Juarez where they found a 14-year old kidnapper and his 45 year old accomplice Andres Sanchez Balderas. They believe that these individuals are involved in kidnap for ransom and that the home was used as a safe house.
According to Mexican authorities the Santa Muerte (the cult known as “Saint Death”) altar had a bride skeleton adored with a satin wedding dress accompanied by several human skulls and cigarette packs that were offered to appease the saint of death.
Police are trying to determine if all the skeletal parts are human and if so who they belong to.
Santa Muerte is believed to have over 2 million followers and is condemned by the Catholic Church but is growing in popularity especially in Mexico where it originated starting with the Aztecs.
