Renowned conservative commentator and thought leader George Will was doing the Sunday talk show circuit when the subject of immigration and illegal immigrants came up.

When asked, on ABC’s This Week hosted by Christine Amanpour, what is ‘politically possible’ on the issue of immigration, Will went against the political right thinking and asserted that deporting all illegal immigrants was never going to happen.

He offered the following commentary and of course stated that step one is securing the borders:

“To deport them would require not just police measures we would never tolerate. The majority have been here five years or more, they’ve had children here, and their children are citizens. But to depart them would require a line of buses bumper-to-bumper extending from San Diego to Alaska. Not going to happen. And as soon as people come to terms with that, then we get on to settling it.”

And why are Will’s comments important?  Because he has a huge following, is considered the voice of reason on political and social issues in this country, and does his homework when he speaks.  You may not agree with what the Pultizer Prize winner has to say but you always listen and know that much analysis and reason has gone into his position.
