One of Arizona’s now-famous lawmen who has garnered media attention for his views on undocumented immigrants, Senate President Russell Pearce is now facing a recall election, and the committee pushing for it says it will file petitions Tuesday.

If the group, Citizens for a Better Arizona, receives enough signatures from voters in the Mesa Republican’s legislative district, the recall election will be held in November or March, depending on how long it takes to check the petitions and make the required certifications.

If the recall election takes place, it will be the first time an Arizona legislator has been recalled in nearly 100-year history, and it will also be the first recall of a Senate President in U.S. history.
